New York Day 2/Yankees Game

Our big plans for day 2 was the Yankees game.  Glen was so excited.  His agency he works with got us the tickets so that was even a extra bonus!

We knew we had most of the morning and early afternoon to do just whatever we wanted so we took the subway over to the Chelsea area and hit up a recommended donut shop.  SOO yummy!  Donut Plant.  I didn't even take a picture of our yummy donuts cause we ate them so fast!

We just decided to walk down the road and burn off some of our calorie intake.  We happened to walk into China Town and Little Italy.  So much to see in both.
They happened to be having a fair of some sorts in Little Italy so we wondered around, not hungry, but wanting to eat because they had the most delicious looking food all over!  I think I could be Italian and happy!

We decided to give into our temptations and indulge in a margherita slice of pizza.  Glen's new favorite!

We did a little shopping and more walking and then decided we better make our way on the subway to Yankee Stadium.

Yankee Stadium is in the Bronx so the Subway ride there was very interesting and entertaining!

About a week before our trip I emailed my old friend Jeff to let him know I was coming in town and it just so happened that he and his wife were also going to the Yankee game.  It was so fun to meet up with them and visit for part of them game.

I was so excited for order my coke and sit back and watch the game but kinda got bummed when I found out they didn't have straws!  I need a straw!

I can honestly say I wasn't near as excited about this game as Glen.  However, I can now say that it was just one of the biggest highlights of my trip.  So much fun!
It just so happened to be Mariano Rivera's final home game as he is retiring.  They did a really good tribute to him.  He has the most saves in major league history and 2x more post season saves than the guy in behind him.  He also has the best ERA since 1920.  As good as he has been on the field, it was cool to learn all the great volunteer work he does off the field.  What a great guy - so many standing ovations for him during the game.  Glen isn't a huge Yankee fan but I think we both shed a tear.
They had Metallica there preforming Enter Sandman and tons of celebrities recorded on the big screen leaving him with farewell messages.

After the game we decided to take the Subway to Central Park.  Glen had his celebrity sighting as we were walking into the park, George Stephanopoulos.
Central Park is really so huge.  There was lots going on at the park that day, as it was Sunday.

Next time we go we decided we will take a boat ride!

Once we left the park we decided to walk to find a place to eat.  As we were walking we found the Flat Iron Building, Glen's favorite.

One place I heard we needed to eat at was the Shake Shack.  I think there are quite a few but so lucky for us this little outdoor one just happened to be on our walk.  Perfect! And the line wasn't too bad either.
So glad we ate there, I am not a huge burger fan but that was SOOO yummy!

And the shake wasn't too bad either! Our hungry bellies were very happy!

Our feet were tired by the end of Day 2 but I don't think it could have been more perfect!
