Cecret Lake

The heat is killing us and we are starting to feel ansy stuck inside, so yesterday we took a short little drive up the canyon to escape the 102 degree weather.

We forgot our bug spray back in the car so we briskly hiked the half mile, all while trying to enjoy the beautiful scenery. There is just something about the smell of the fresh air and the mountains that makes everyone happy, however the mosquitoes killed it for us on this trip. Once we reached our destination Carter was elated to see the salamanders in the lake. Mommy however was not so excited to see the mosquito problem getting worse. With a 2 minute rest and promise to come back with bug spray we headed back down the mountain, watching each others backs the whole WAY down. We decided daddy must be extra sweet!

***(as a side note, please pay no attention to our homeless looking daughter; more on that to follow soon.)

stupid mosquitos ruining a perfectly good day at the lake, Bess looks ok to me, but thats probably how I'd dress my little girl anyways, which is why Joni will take care of that part.

That hike is so green with all the flowers out, it's very pretty and a luxury being only 30 minutes away. Too bad the mosquitos killed it. It was like a cartoon how they swarmed on us. I'm pretty laissez faire when it comes to what the kids wear. Mom, not so much. :)

What a beautiful place! Looks like a nice place to spend time-too bad about those mosquitos. I take it Bess has entered the stage of wanting to dress herself and your suggestions hold no merit? I know I will hit that battle with Regan eventually too- the scary thing is, with girls, I am afraid it will only be the beginning :)

Beautiful spot! I'm sorry Carter didn't get to stay long enough to really enjoy the salamanders. He is the bug and reptile king, for sure! Sorry about the mosquitoes. I think they're especially bad this year - - -probably because of all the extra moisture. Oh well - - -next time!
Bess looks super - - -and like she's having a fun outdoor day - - right, Bess? :)

Love you lots.

We did a lot of hiking on our visit, too. There is nothing like spending time in the cool, mountainous air, but mosquitos ARE the worst this time of year.

I join you in hating mosquitos. I also have great memories of living in SLC for so many years and having many wonderful drives up the canyons. On a hot summer day it's fun to take a dinner picnic up one of the canyons and enjoy the stream with your children and climb awesome mountains.
