and he's off

Carter's had his bags packed since Sat. night. He's been counting down the hours and he's finally on the airplane flying to Grandma's and Grandpa's house. This afternoon I helped repack him, he made me laugh as I unpacked many of his unnecessary items.

He started to cry when it was time to get in the car and drive to the airport. He said he was going to miss us. I am sure he'll do fine once he gets there. I can't give him too hard of a time, I remember being 10 and calling my mom from sleep-overs wanting her to come get me.

The best thing to him about going up there is the wide open space that he has to explore. That is one thing I think I took for granted growing up in Montana, Carter on the other hand acts very deprived of it and craves climbing trees, exploring new places, and rolling around in the grass.

Carter's very favorite bed time stories are told by Glen. He loves to hear about when his dad was a little boy and all the crazy fun boy stuff he and his brothers did. It seems as if most of the stories involved the simple things of life that we don't take enough time for now a days. Doesn't it seem like there was more open space to run and explore back then? It seems now everywhere you turn there is new construction.

Four weeks ago I was really worried about how the summer was going to work out. It seems as if the worrying went right out the window. We've kept very busy, with plenty extras we haven't been able to fit into our days. We haven't even had a friend call or a friend over to play yet since schools been out. I say that's pretty good!

I signed both kids up for swim lessons and they are loving it. I have to say I was a bit nervous about Carter. He has never wanted to do swim lessons. About 2 months ago he told me he wanted to go scuba diving with his dad. I told him he had to learn to swim before he could scuba dive. That was enough insensitive for him. He is in level 3. Which I would say is pretty good for a first time swim lessons. He is already doing the back float on his own.
Bess was a little nervous. She didn't like that the boys in her class splashed. Her teacher thought it would be a good idea to use goggles. She quickly got over the fact that the splashing bothered her because wearing the goggles stressed her out that much more.

We had Glen's work day at Lagoon last week. I love to see the kids get all excited and see the joy in their eyes when they get on the rides. The weather was perfect that day we went, so we were very lucky.
Here 's some documentation from Carter's camera to show just how good of a time we had.

WHAT A GREAT DOCUMENTATION EH?

It's definitely wedding season. We keep getting wedding announcements in the mail. One of my laurels, from when I very first got put into YW's, got married on Saturday. She married a kid from the ward so it was a like a huge ward party. They had it in their yard right down the street from us. It was so pretty. But I have to say it made me feel old. Another girl that was a laurel at the same time is getting married next month. At least they weren't my beehives, right? YET!

Girls camp starts tomorrow. I really do love bonding and being with our group of girls. They definitely know how to have fun! The hard thing about girls camp is just getting away, especially with kids. I am grateful to my sister and Glen for helping me out the next couple of days.
As soon as girls camp is over on Friday and Carter's back, he and Glen head up to the father son camp out. Glen has really tried to spearhead this this year, so he is really excited about the turnout from our ward. I am sure they will have some good times.

So as you can tell we are keeping busy and enjoying our summer. I am loving the weather; especially the evenings. We've really been enjoying our trampoline and evening walks. Hopefully, this summer doesn't fly by too fast. I DO enjoy a little downtime too!

I'm glad Carter and Bess are taking swimming, and that Carter has a chance to be in Montana. Glen's stories of his childhood memories is nostalgic for me. I'm glad you are having an enjoyable summer. Have fun at camp.

Love, Mike

Storytime is a challenge. Carter won't let me do repeats, so I have to come up with something new EVERY night. It makes it easier when I remember some little thing that happened as a kid, and make it into a story.

Bess prefers lullabys to stories. It makes me smile to hear her sing "Lu lu la lu lu" to one of her babies. That's her favorite, or "Goodnight my Someone". The songs they know are the songs I knew. The circle of life!

It does sound like you are staying plenty busy.

How fun for Carter to fly all by himself to see your mom and dad. That is awesome! He will have a great time.

I hope you and Bess get some down time now.

Swimming lessons are the best. It looks like they are loving every minute.

That's a great blog! Have fun with your girls at camp! We haven't had many weddings, but lots of graduation announcements from our friend's kids - talk about feeling old! The kids look like naturals in the water, and Montana sounds like an outdoor playground - I'm sure they'll have so much fun!

That must have been so hard to put your little one on a plane. It is hard to put my big kids on a plane!

Sounds like your family is having a very fun summer.

As far as the weddings go I have my first one actually getting married in a few weeks - talk about getting older! Ha ha It's fun though.
